The Today in dividi widget puts your shared month on the Home Screen: budget status, bills coming due, and the open settlement in your Joint Account. It runs on iPhone and Android in three sizes, and it surfaces whatever needs attention first.
That changes the routine. Checking the month stops being a decision and becomes something you already saw when you unlocked your phone.
What does the widget show first?
It doesn’t stack everything in your account. It picks one headline at a time, following a fixed order of urgency. If you’re over budget, you won’t see “Healthy” just because no bill is due yet.
Here’s the order:
- Budget is over — “Check this month before spending more.”
- Bills overdue — “Open the app to resolve it.”
- Bills due today.
- Open settlement in the Joint Account.
- Bills coming up — “Due dates are coming up in the next few days.”
- Budget needs attention — you’re close to the limit you planned.
- No budget, when the month has no budget set yet.
- Healthy — no important alerts this month.
Item 7 is the one worth pausing on. With no budget set, the widget says No budget and offers to set one up. It doesn’t round up to “Healthy.” That’s deliberate: a summary that looks calm because it’s hiding a gap isn’t much use for deciding anything.
Which widget size should you pick?
All three sizes exist on both platforms, and the difference isn’t only surface area.
| Size | What fits | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| Small | Month status and the main alert, no breakdown. | You want the signal only: calm, or needs a look. |
| Medium | Status, the month, and bills coming due. | The everyday balance, with room for due dates. |
| Large | Everything in medium plus recent bills and the month summary. | You track closely and want the whole month visible. |
The large size lists up to four bills; smaller ones trim rather than cram. Tapping any item opens the matching screen in the app — a card’s bill takes you straight to that card’s statement.
How does discreet mode protect your amounts?
A financial summary on the Home Screen has an obvious problem: the Home Screen is the most public part of your phone. It shows up when you hand someone a photo, when a seatmate glances over, when the phone sits face-up on a desk.
Discreet mode handles that. With it on, the widget still shows the state of your month and the alerts, but hides amounts, names, and totals. You still know a bill is coming due; the person next to you doesn’t learn how much it is or who it’s for.
Two details worth knowing:
- Discreet mode is off by default. The app keeps your data visible until you turn the protection on — that’s your call to make, not a silent default.
- When it’s on, amounts aren’t just visually masked. They never get written to the summary your phone uses to draw the widget. The redaction happens before storage, not at display time.
The trade-off is worth stating plainly, and the app states it too: with discreet mode off, widgets can display amounts while the phone is unlocked.
Which account does the widget follow?
If you use a Personal Account and a Joint Account, you have to decide which one the summary reflects. The Widget account setting gives you three options:
- Active account in app (default) — follows whichever account you last selected in dividi.
- Personal — pins the summary to your individual account.
- Joint — pins the summary to the shared account.
The default works fine if you mostly live in one account. Pinning matters more for couples who switch back and forth: you can lock the summary to Joint and still use the app for both, so the Home Screen summary is always the shared one.
How do you add the dividi widget on iPhone and Android?
In the app:
- Open Settings.
- Find the Widget section, under Home Screen summary.
- Turn on Discreet mode if you’d rather hide amounts and names.
- Under Widget account, choose Active account in app, Personal, or Joint.
To add it to your Home Screen:
- iPhone: touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, tap + in the corner, search for dividi, and pick the size you want. Apple’s guide on adding and editing widgets on iPhone covers the general steps.
- Android: touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, tap Widgets, find Today in dividi, and drag your preferred size onto the screen. Google’s help page on adding items to your Home screens covers variations by manufacturer.
On iPhone, you can also set the account from iOS itself: touch and hold the widget, then tap Edit Widget.
A naming note: on Android it’s listed as Today in dividi, in Small, Medium, and Large. On iPhone the gallery still shows the Portuguese name (“Hoje no dividi”), so search for dividi and you’ll find it.
What’s the voice shortcut in the widget?
On the sizes with room for actions, a Voice button sits next to New expense. It opens a conversation with Divi so you can log a bill by speaking, without navigating the app first.
That shortcut appears for dividi Premium subscribers only — it’s the same voice logging the app offers, surfaced on the Home Screen. On the free plan you still get the full summary; only that button is missing.
What the widget looks like on a real month
Picture a couple splitting the month like this: one covers rent and internet, the other puts groceries and subscriptions on a card. On the 22nd, the medium widget on both their Home Screens reads Budget needs attention, with the credit card bill listed as coming due.
Neither of them opened the app to find that out, and neither had to ask the other. They saw the same thing on the same day, so the evening conversation starts at “should we hold off on takeout until the 30th?” instead of “why is the card bill that high?”
With discreet mode on, that same couple sees the attention state and the upcoming bill without the amounts showing — enough to act on, and nothing extra for anyone glancing over.
Frequently asked questions about the dividi widget
Does the widget work without a connection?
It shows the last synced summary. When that data gets too old, an Outdated badge appears in the header and the action becomes Open, so you can refresh in the app. The summary stays visible with the badge — it flags that the data aged rather than disappearing or pretending it’s current.
Do I need Premium to use the widget?
No. The Home Screen summary is available on every plan. The Voice button inside it is the Premium-only part.
Can I have a Joint and a Personal one at the same time?
Yes. Add two and pin each one to a different account using the Widget account setting, or the widget’s own configuration on iPhone.
Does my partner see the same summary I do?
Each of you sets up your own phone, but Joint Account content is the same for both. What differs is the size each of you picked and whether either of you turned on discreet mode.
How should you set the widget up this week?
Add the medium size, pin it to your Joint Account, and turn on Discreet mode if your phone spends time in public. After a week you’ll know if the size is right: if you keep opening the app to check due dates, move up to large; if you never look at it, small does the job as a signal.
It’s the lightest layer of dividi — the summary that shows up without effort. When it asks for attention, your Budget and your transfers are one tap away, with the full month behind them.
- To read the statuses the widget summarizes: Smart Budget: how to read each status
- For the settlement that shows up as pending: Transfers in dividi: settling up as a couple
- To get started: download dividi and turn on the Home Screen summary, under Settings → Widget.
If tracking the month with less effort is the part that appeals to you, that’s roughly why this blog exists.
